About the Book:
Riding the Bullet by Stephen King has been described as a "ghost story in the grand manner" and the story of "a young man who hitches a ride with a driver from the other side," but in this special edition only available from Lonely Road Books, we're going to show you King's classic novella in a way you've never seen it before: alongside the feature film screenplay adaptation by director Mick Garris.
The road from print to the silver screen is often a bumpy one and much has been written about how a story is sometimes transformed to make it work in moving pictures. This is your chance to experience Riding the Bullet in a way only those close to the production of the film ever have. Start with King's original novella, then flip the book over and read the original script by Mick Garris. Compare what he kept, what he had to change, and even the storytelling flourishes he added to round out the tale.
This highly collectible special edition will be published in the same manner as our acclaimed edition of The Arthur Darknell Double — in the tradition of the old Ace Doubles. This is the very first Stephen King Limited Edition to be published in this manner, and we're certain it'll be a huge hit with the collectors.
Complete with stunning artwork by Bernie Wrightson, this exclusive Lonely Road Books special edition is going to be one of the most discussed small press books of the year.

Also currently in production and already sold out is The Vampyricon Trilogy: The Definitive Special Edition by Douglas Clegg. This series has been hailed as "richly layered, beautifully rendered" and "a work of dark, delightful vision" by readers and reviewers alike, and for the first-time ever the complete text will be available to collectors in a single volume as the latest deluxe special edition from Lonely Road Books. Although all of the available copies were reserved within a week of the book being announced, you can still join the waiting list to be notified if any copies become available.
If you're new to Lonely Road Books, readers and collector raved about our first book, Dark
Forces: The 25th Anniversary Special Edition edited by Kirby McCauley, and many consider it a "must have" for any fine horror and suspense collection. Not only did every available copy of our special editionsellout within days of being announced, but copies were selling on the second-hand market for much more than the original retail price immediately upon publication. If you missed out on the Dark
Forces special deluxe edition, you can view photos
in the Photo & Artwork section
of this website.
The Arthur
Darknell Double by Arthur Darknell was recently published as our second title. This special deluxe edition was crafted in the tradition
of the old Ace Doubles, so when you finish the first novel, flip the
book over and start the other novel.
That's right! This book features TWO original novels — never before
published anywhere and currently not scheduled to be reprinted —
and both the Limited Edition and the Lettered Edition sold out within
days of being announced.
Lonely
Road Books was proud to be able to publish Arthur Darknell's first
two bookstogether as a special deluxe Limited Edition Double. But who is Arthur Darknell? Well, you might know him from the tales of terror he writes under the name of Ray Garton. If you're curious
as to why Ray has decided to go in a new direction with his fiction,
please check out his essay on this website.
Poe by Stewart O'Nan, our third title, also sold
out within days of being announced, and once again no other editions of this title are planned anywhere in the world at this time.
In this special deluxe Limited Edition, New York Times bestselling author Stewart O'Nan offers
readers a unique perspective into the life and mind of the classic
horror writer, Edgar Allan Poe. Admirers of Poe's influential writings
will recognize their favorite author in this screenplay, which is
simultaneously a realistic look at his life, an homage to the gothic
castles and mist-shrouded forests of classic B-Movies, and a sometimes-surreal
meditation on Poe's addictions, obsessions, and inspirations. These
pages depict a "bloodier, sexier Poe," as he might have
been directed in a film by Pier Paolo Pasolini—a depiction
O'Nan hopes will appeal to fans of Roger Corman and Federico Fellini
alike.
Featuring a special introduction
from horror film legend Roger Corman, this unique production of Poe is
only available as a Lonely Road Books special edition.
One other important note for collectors: when we announce a new book, we may offer a special feature just for customers who order the book within a certain period of time or who order a specific edition.
For example, customers who ordered The Arthur
Darknell Double Lettered Edition, of which there were only 26 copies in the world, will also receive a deluxe Limited Edition chapbook called "The
Most Interesting Prospect" by Arthur Darknell. This is an original story written exclusively for Lonely Road Books by Ray Garton, and at this time there are no plans for it to ever be reprinted or for Ray to even write another Arthur Darknell short story. This exclusive addition to our Lettered Edition made the book even more collectible.
Another example is "Monsters" by Stewart O'Nan. Clocking in at over 8,000 words, this is an original short story by one of our generation's finest authors of the short form, and the deluxe Limited Edition chapbook was hand-crafted by artist Keith Minnion. These chapbooks were only available to customers who ordered Poe within five days of the book being announced. Because all 200 copies of the signed Limited Edition and all 26 copies of the signed Lettered Edition sold within that time period, there were only 226 copies of the "Monsters" chapbook ever printed. Each was signed and hand-numbered by the author himself.
